A portrait session can be very simple: you want a good photo of yourself, and I take it. Often, though, it is something more than that.
Two hours in front of a camera is a rare thing. You're trusting someone to look at you. Together, we make a snapshot of a moment in your life. In the studio or out on location, I treat that time as precious.
It goes well beyond the technical side of a photo session. It's a concentrated, safe space, where you feel secure enough to let me see something in you, and show it back to you.
Tell me a little about yourself and what you have in mind, and we'll take it from there.
About me
I'm Shai, a photographer and director, living in Berlin since 2001. Alongside my work in film production, I've shot for magazines, in reportage and in fashion, and shown my work in group and solo exhibitions.
I don't think a portrait has to strip anything away. Whatever you bring into the room, whether nerves, humor or a pose you've practiced, is part of the picture. What I bring is openness, attention, availability and an absence of judgment. With that in place, people usually find their own way into the photograph. You don't have to be anyone in particular.
After a long stretch of commercial work, I'm back to where photography started for me, and I'd like to invite you to make a photograph together.
